His compositions in electronic music since 1978 are in the contexts of live performances, mixed-media events,
installations, experimental videos, tv-film, radio broadcasts, theatre- and CD-productions.
He pursued studies in philosophy and history at the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum/Germany, finishing in 1986 with an
MA degree.
1983-1998 he worked for public radio stations in Germany as author of radio-features about art and science.

2002 = Frank Niehusmann's composition "Untertagemusik Nr.1" was honoured at the 29th International Competition
of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art in Bourges in the category "works for electroacoustic and sonic art".
2000 = Award of the "Stiftung Kunst und Kultur des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen" for the theatre-production "Mama" by
Rolf Dennemann and Frank Niehusmann,
1998 = Second award at the film-festival "Blicke aus dem Ruhrgebiet" in Bochum for the Video "Emscher
Park Overdrive" by Arnd Stein and Frank Niehusmann,
1997 = Special award for the video "Heimat & Antarktis" at the "3. competition for history in the
Ruhr-Area" of the "Forum Geschichtskultur",
1992 = scholarship for composition "Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf" (Brandenburg/Germany).
